Appling County authorizes negotiations to replace van used by senior meals provider Action Pact

The Appling County Board of Commissioners on Nov. 7 authorized County Manager Al Meadows to begin negotiations to purchase a replacement used vehicle for Action Pact, the county’s senior nutrition provider, with a spending ceiling of $18,000.
County Manager Al Meadows told the board the Community Action Agency, now known as Action Pact, "has been serving seniors in Appling County since 1977." He said Action Pact provided 18,468 hot meals in a 12-month period, of which about 12,000 were delivered, and that the delivery vehicle—a county-owned 2007 Buick minivan—has logged roughly 129,000 miles and has needed more than $6,000 in repairs.
Meadows recommended the board consider replacing the current vehicle with a used model in the $15,000–$18,000 range. Commissioner Doug Harris moved to authorize Meadows to begin negotiations for a replacement vehicle up to $18,000; Commissioner Theodore Wilkerson seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.
The board did not set a replacement model or exact purchase terms at the meeting. Next steps: Meadows will pursue negotiations and report back to the commission with options and final pricing for formal approval.
