Selectboard chair Joe Nolan told the board he received a call from Merrow and said the engineers will visit on Monday, March 23 at 1 p.m. Nolan said he, Selectboard members John Phelps and Linda Schmidt will be present for the inspection to determine next steps.
At the same meeting the board discussed separate but related concerns about Town Hall' potable water. John Phelps said routine tests have continued to show contamination at Town Hall, which the minutes note is designated as an emergency shelter. Prior consultations quoted a needed filtration system at about $14,000, which the minutes say would likely have to be paid from town funds because available grant money is insufficient.
Phelps said he will take initial steps to obtain a State water testing kit and will explore whether a more affordable filtration option can be procured from F.W. Webb. The board did not approve a purchase at the meeting; discussion centered on next steps for testing and identifying lower-cost options.
The Selectboard did not reach a formal engineering determination at the meeting; the March 23 inspection by State engineers will provide a neutral technical assessment and is expected to guide any repairs or remediation. The board also discussed the Town Hall's shelter designation in light of potable water issues and the funding implications of installing a permanent filter.
