Wymore Council swears in Collin Meints as mayor; leadership appointments tabled

Collin Meints was sworn in as mayor of Wymore on Dec. 7, 2022, when City Attorney Andy Carothers administered the oath of office to Meints and to councilmembers Curt Oblinger and Neil Van Boening. The meeting, held in the council chambers, began at 7:00 p.m. and was called to order by outgoing Mayor Pike.
The council unanimously approved a motion by Max Allen, seconded by Sue Sapp, to nominate Sue Sapp as City Council President. After taking office, Mayor Meints presented a plaque of appreciation to outgoing Mayor Pike in recognition of his eight years of service.
During public comment, Tim Sedlacek thanked Mayor Pike for his work, including efforts to secure street improvements for the city. Mayor Pike responded by thanking council members, the city attorney, staff and volunteers for their support.
Council discussion then turned to appointments. Mayor Meints asked for time to reach out to prospective members for several vacancies; the council voted to table approval of board and committee appointments until the next meeting. Council members also updated lists of city officers: the EMS officer list was corrected to match the Nov. 16, 2022 approval, and the council changed the city's auditors to HBE. Council asked City Attorney Andy Carothers to research whether Mayor Meints may legally serve as a fire department officer and to report back at the next meeting. Approval of city official appointments (with the EMS updates and auditor change) passed unanimously, while final approval of fire department officers was deferred.
The council is scheduled to revisit committee and fire-department officer appointments at its next meeting after the mayor and staff complete follow-up research and outreach.
