Appling County extension official resigns; commissioners appoint vice chair and fill local boards

Shane Curry, an employee of Appling County Extension Services, tendered his resignation effective Dec. 31, 2023 to accept a position as executive director of the Vidalia Onion Committee, County Manager Al Meadows told the Board of Commissioners. The board recognized Curry's 13 years of service and presented him with a plaque.
The board moved next to several routine appointments. Commissioner Theodore Wilkerson nominated Commissioner Randy Sellers to serve as vice chairman for the 2024 calendar year; the motion, seconded by Commissioner Charlie Leggett, was approved unanimously. County Manager Meadows said Dr. Eddie Rentz, DMD, wished to continue serving on the Appling County Board of Health; the board voted to reappoint him. At the request of Department of Family & Children Services Director Kacie Nencioni, the board appointed County Clerk Robyn Evans to fill the DFCS seat through 2025.
The actions were procedural and passed by unanimous vote. The meeting record shows the board asking for nominees to replace a departing Heart of Georgia board member at a future meeting.
