Appling County awards $2.12 million LMIG resurfacing contract to GA Asphalt Producers

Appling County commissioners on April 4 unanimously approved a $2,123,077.37 contract with GA Asphalt Producers for the county's 2023 LMIG resurfacing projects.
County Manager Al Meadows told the board two bids were received for the LMIG projects — GA Asphalt Producers at $2,123,077.37 and The Scruggs Company at $2,438,976.91 — and recommended awarding the work to GA Asphalt Producers as the lowest responsive bidder. "The bid from GA Asphalt Producers, Inc. was the lowest and met specification requirements," Meadows said.
Commissioner Theodore Wilkerson moved to accept Meadows' recommendation; Commissioner Doug Harris seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. Present and recorded as voting were Commissioners Randy Sellers, Theodore Wilkerson, Daryl Edwards, Doug Harris and Charlie Leggett.
The LMIG (Local Maintenance and Improvement Grant) program funds resurfacing and road repairs. The board did not provide a breakdown in the minutes of which specific segments will be resurfaced beyond noting Hunter Road and other county routes and City of Baxley discretionary resurfacing were included in the bid package.
The board did not set a construction start date in the minutes; county staff will handle contracting and scheduling with the awarded vendor.
