Dubois County reports $378,334 Lane-Mile distribution, readies CCMG application and bridge work

Highway Engineer Levi Leffert told the Dubois County Commissioners on July 6 that the county received a first Lane-Mile Direct Distribution payment of $378,334.22 following state changes to the Local Road and Bridge Fund and that the county will be eligible to apply for approximately $622,000 in Community Crossings Matching Grant (CCMG) funding for State Fiscal Year 2027 when the single annual call opens in September.
Leffert summarized project activity: Calcar is scheduled to pave South Newton Street and Mendal Lane this week; Bridge 36 (Celestine Road N, .16 miles S of SR 545) has a newly poured concrete deck that is curing and is expected to open by the end of the week pending any weather delays; Bridge 107 deck overlays are complete and a change order increasing the contract by $10,127.03 was presented and approved unanimously by the board.
Leffert also said the governor had directed calculations to make local governments whole after a gas-tax suspension and that local distributions are expected to resume in late July, with full make-whole distributions no later than Nov. 1, 2026.
Next steps: Highway staff will review the county—s Asset Management Plan to identify the strongest candidate project(s) for the FY2027 CCMG application; commissioners will monitor funding timing related to the gas-tax suspension.
