The Dubois County Board of Commissioners unanimously adopted Ordinance 2026-12 on July 6, 2026, updating official job descriptions for county positions and aligning employee classifications with a recent study. Human Resources Generalist Markie Rhodes presented the ordinance and said it follows the Job Classification and Compensation Study by Waggoner, Irwin, Scheele & Associates. The ordinance is set to take effect Jan. 1, 2027, with the 2027 budget.
Rhodes told the board the attached Exhibit A lists revised titles, job categories and FLSA status for a wide range of county positions, from ambulance services through the treasurer—s office. The ordinance text included citations to Indiana Code provisions addressing county administrative authority and compensation (IC 36-2-6-2; IC 5-10-6-1; IC 36-2-5-3) as the legal basis for adopting job descriptions. A motion to adopt the ordinance was made, seconded, and carried unanimously.
The change formalizes job descriptions across departments and is tied to the county's 2027 budget process. Commissioners directed staff to implement changes in personnel records consistent with the ordinance before the effective date.
Next steps: Implementation of revised job descriptions and incorporation into the 2027 budget.
