Haysville solar arrays exceed projections, producing more energy and early savings

A performance review of recently installed solar arrays at the transportation (bus barn) site and Campus High School shows the systems produced more energy than expected during the verification period, district staff reported.
The presenter said the combined actual output was 89,553 kilowatt-hours versus a projection of about 84,000 kWh — roughly 6% above plan — and that combined savings compared with the expected projection were $9,014 versus a projected $8,220. "Both sides are exceeding projections," the presenter said, noting the bus barn had been online six months and Campus High School for two months.
During the two-month verification window the district measured nearly $800 in initial savings; district staff cautioned that longer-term savings will depend on usage patterns and contract terms. Board members asked whether Evergy (the local utility) pays the district for exported energy and whether contract terms could be renegotiated; staff said everything is negotiable but indicated the district has received rebates and negotiated favorable equipment procurement (Trane) to lower overall costs.
The board was also told the arrays do not use battery storage and export excess generation to the grid; Evergy return payments and the margin on resale were identified as questions for potential future negotiations.
