Broken Bow council approves Memorial Drive final pay, recurring events resolution and appointment; mayor announces staffing and cleanup

The Broken Bow City Council completed a short agenda of routine business on March 28, 2023, approving a final pay application for a street project, authorizing recurring events and confirming an appointment to a liquor license, and receiving mayoral announcements on police staffing and a city clean‑up.

The council approved Resolution 2023‑2, a final pay application in the amount of $115,696.95 to Myers Construction for the Memorial Drive project. The motion was moved by David Schmidt, seconded by Paul Holland and passed by roll call with the members present voting aye.

Council then approved Resolution 2023‑3, which authorizes mayoral approval of recurring events; that motion was moved by David Baltz, seconded by Paul Holland and carried by unanimous recorded vote of those present.

The council also approved the appointment of Christopher C. Sieck as the new Corporate Manager for Casey's Retail Company dba Casey's General Store #1845; the motion was moved by David Schmidt, seconded by Paul Holland and approved by roll call vote.

Earlier in the meeting the consent agenda — approved by motion and roll call — included routine items: Minutes of March 14, bills to date (an itemized list reported in the minutes with a total of $169,128.61), the February Treasurer's Report, Broken Bow Fire Department rosters and approval of a KaBoomer's fireworks application.

In mayoral remarks, Mayor Rod Sonnichsen said the Police Department "will be fully staffed and certified once the two newest officers graduate from training." He also said the city will initiate a nuisance‑property enforcement push and invited residents to the City Wide Clean Up at Tomahawk Park on April 29, 2023.
