Wymore council approves software purchase, discusses police wages and OKs Sam Wymore Days plans

City Clerk Janet Riensche presented a quote for Power Manager accounting software and said optional modules were available but not required; the council approved purchasing Power Manager at the quoted price of $18,501 and agreed to divide the cost between departments. The council also approved adding Neptune 360 meter software; staff said Neptune 360 is compatible with the planned Power Manager setup and with the city’s existing card‑reader system.
Bryan Davidson presented a recommendation from the Police Department Advisory Committee proposing starting wages of $23 per hour for non‑certified officers and $26 per hour following certification. Councilors said wage levels would be set during hiring negotiations; no wage ordinance vote took place on Feb. 7.
On EMS matters, the council agreed with City Attorney Andy Carothers that the EMS medical director (Dr. Kruger) should be classified as an independent contractor rather than an employee; City Clerk Janet Riensche said she will change Dr. Kruger’s status so future payments are made to a vendor. The council approved adding an additional Wymore EMS attendee to the Kearney EMS conference (a motion carried with one abstention).
On community events, Tim Sedlacek requested and the council approved moving forward with Sam Wymore Days (June 7–9), including use of the Community Center, parks and park house, consideration of fireworks and adding event insurance to city policy. The council also approved Councilor Neil Van Boening’s request to attend the League of Nebraska Municipalities Mid‑Winter Conference in Lincoln and to reimburse registration and lunch.
Other administrative business: the council recorded receipt of a quote from engineering firm JEO for a CDBG application and asked Southeast Area Development District staff to verify state requirements before placing the item on a future agenda. The meeting adjourned at 9:00 p.m.
