Black Walnut Festival organizers report 31 vendors; Lumos fiber installation expected within months

Festival organizer Beth Spieler updated the board that 31 vendors have signed up for the Black Walnut Festival, not counting food vendors and the apple press, and distributed a rough budget outline. Commissioners discussed beer sales, needing an additional square card reader, music, local honey sales and festival t-shirts as part of planning.
Mayor Brent Rockett said he has not yet received a firm completion date from broadband provider Lumos but, based on prior conversations, expects installation in Bethania within a couple of months. Commissioner Kenneth Wolff said he had met with Lumos and identified an incorrect tax map; he and Commissioner Tom Beroth later met with Lumos and reported a plan to install fiber lines on poles on the east side of Main Street. The Visitor Center was not represented at the meeting; Town Clerk Karen Keller reported that honey produced locally is now on sale at the Visitor Center.
The board did not take formal action on festival planning or Lumos service during the meeting; organizers will continue planning and town staff will follow up with the provider as needed.
