The Louisa County Board of Supervisors on April 12 unanimously approved a suite of actions including the assignment of several tax-sale certificates in Oakville to the Oakville Volunteer Foundation, authorization of a timber sale at the Virginia Grove recreation area and the appointment of JoEllen Schantz to the county Conservation Board.
The Board signed four separate resolutions (20221–20224) assigning tax-sale certificates to Oakville Volunteer Foundation, Inc. Among the properties are Lots 17–19, Block 1 of Brader’s Addition and multiple lots in Carter’s Addition in the town of Oakville. Each resolution passed with recorded Ayes from Brad Quigley (Chair), Chris Ball and Randy Griffin; Auditor Sandi Sturgell attested the resolutions.
The Board also approved Resolution 20225 authorizing the removal and sale of timber at the Virginia Grove recreation area (20406 55th St., Morning Sun) "pursuant to the Forest Stewardship Plan," and authorized entering into a contract with Geode Forestry, Inc., for removal and sale of the timber. The public hearing on the timber sale was opened at 9:30 a.m. and closed at 9:40 a.m.; the minutes record that no window bids were received from the placed advertisement.
During the meeting Supervisor Chris Ball moved, and Supervisor Randy Griffin seconded, to appoint JoEllen Schantz to the Louisa County Conservation Board; the motion carried. Earlier in the meeting press member Jim Rudisill asked whether the Board would solicit public input on Conservation Board applicants; Supervisor Griffin said he did not feel public comment was necessary and proceeded with the appointment without soliciting additional public input.
The Board also approved plans and specifications for Project LFM-x61-23-58 (a drainage project). A motion by Ball, seconded by Griffin, approved the plans.
Other routine business included review of the Morning Sun Ambulance report for March, review of the Sheriff’s Office quarterly report and approval of the Recorder’s 3rd Quarter Report. Payroll changes were reviewed, including a new hire, Jacob Ford, at $17.21 per hour, and County Engineer Adam Shutt provided the weekly Secondary Roads Department update, which is noted in the minutes without further detail. The Board examined and approved claims, and adjourned at 10:40 a.m.
