Alabama parole board grants, denies requests across 34 cases; one full pardon restored rights
Summary
At its Aug. 21, 2025 meeting the Alabama Board of Pardons and Paroles granted parole or pardons in 14 cases (many with conditions such as PREP, GPS monitoring and mental-health follow-up), denied 19 requests (most with reset dates) and continued one case to Oct. 7, 2025. The Board also approved releasing one person from a Day Reporting Center requirement for medical care.
The Alabama Board of Pardons and Paroles met in Montgomery on Aug. 21, 2025, and decided 34 docketed cases involving parole, pardons and restoration of voting rights.
In total the Board granted pardons or paroles in 14 cases and denied 19 requests; one case was continued. Several grants included post-release conditions such as completion of the Perry County Probation/Parole Reentry Education Program (PREP), enrollment in NA/AA, GPS ankle monitoring, mental-health follow-up and drug assessment upon release. The Board granted a full pardon restoring all civil and political rights to Eulice K. Richardson (AIS#237478).
Speakers for and against requests appeared in multiple cases. Staff and family members frequently spoke in support; representatives from VOCAL and India Eaves, a veterans' services officer in the Attorney General’s Office (VSO), repeatedly spoke against several pardons and paroles. The Board voted to deny a number of paroles with reset review dates ranging through 2026–2030 and continued the pardon hearing for Larry E. Stripling (AIS#816300) to Oct. 7, 2025.
For some cases the Board held an executive session to review files before voting. At about 10:36 a.m. the Board recessed into executive session and returned at 10:44 a.m.; following that review the Board issued both denials and grants, including a grant for Ross O. Petty (AIS#140227) with referral to the Department of Veterans Affairs for assistance.
The Board approved minutes from the Aug. 20 meeting and adjourned at 1:37 p.m. The next meeting was scheduled for Aug. 26, 2025, at 8:00 a.m. at 301 South Ripley Street in Montgomery.
