Alabama Board of Pardons & Paroles denies most parole requests, grants several pardons and conditional paroles

The Alabama Board of Pardons & Paroles met in Montgomery on Aug. 28, 2025, and conducted a full docket of parole and pardon hearings under Alabama Code, Title 15, Chapter 22. Chair Hal Nash and board members Darryl Littleton and Gabrelle Simmons oversaw the session; Nicole Lewis served as board secretary.
Members of victims’ families and advocates appeared throughout the morning to oppose several parole requests. For Ray C. Shockley (AIS# 278242), Courtney Peairs, the victim’s daughter, and others including Vickie Cleveland and Bill Lisenby of VOCAL spoke against parole; the board denied Shockley’s parole and set a reset date of Aug. 2030. Similar opposition and denials, with reset dates, were recorded for Leon D. Rogers (AIS# 209871, denied, reset Aug. 2030) and several other cases that the board denied following public comment and board review.
The board moved several cases to executive session during the morning to review files before voting. After those reviews the board denied parole for Keith Rogers (AIS# 274294) with a reset date of Aug. 2029; denied parole for Eddie T. Lawson (AIS# 336761) and Darius M. Laster (AIS# 297994) with reset dates of Aug. 2028; and denied a pardon for Nathan Taylor (AIS# 811203).
The panel granted parole with conditions in multiple cases. Jason J. Harris (AIS# 229434) was granted parole with conditions that include completion of an approved halfway house, GPS ankle monitoring, NA/AA participation and a drug assessment upon release. Ronald L. McGregor (AIS# 289476) was granted parole with conditions including approved halfway house placement, GPS monitoring, mental health follow-up, a drug assessment and referral to Redemption Earned for reentry assistance. Other paroles granted with conditions included Brandon S. Horner (AIS# 306192), Daniel S. Patton (AIS# 264097), Donald B. Wilder (AIS# 187520), Nathaniel T. Howard (AIS# 334184), Kenneth R. Schultz (AIS# 208308), Demario T. Jones (AIS# 284800) and Michael A. Rumph (AIS# 204520).
The board also granted full pardons restoring civil and political rights to several petitioners. The minutes record full pardons for Delvarius R. King (AIS# 822979), Robert D. Hutson III (AIS# 823676), Bruce S. Boller (AIS# 823349), Laurie E. Kunze (AIS# 827528) and Denzil L. Moore (AIS# 114072).
