Queenstown introduces new zoning‑map ordinance, public hearing set for June 19

President Thomas B. Willis moved to introduce Ordinance 19‑01, "An Ordinance of the Town of Queenstown to Repeal in the Entirety and Reenact the Queenstown Zoning Map," and to schedule a public hearing for June 19. Commissioner Al Hardee seconded the motion.

Commissioner Hardee said residents had expressed concerns about how the earlier map might have affected what the golf course could do with waterfront property; he said the new map reflects a proposed boundary change intended to address those worries. The commission did not take final action on the ordinance at the May 22 meeting beyond introducing it and setting the hearing date.

During new‑business and public comment periods, Commissioner Hardee and Claire Leocha urged clarifying building‑permit timelines; Town Attorney Lyndsey Ryan said she and Clerk Amy Moore would review how other towns and the county handle permit start and completion dates and report back.

At 8:32 p.m. the commission voted to enter a closed session with the town attorney to obtain legal advice related to ongoing building‑permit violations; the closed session cited the Open Meetings Act as its legal authority. The board reconvened at 9:08 p.m. and adjourned at 9:09 p.m.
