Queenstown misses BRF operations grant; MDE loan ranking leaves funding uncertain for WWTP repairs

At the May 22 meeting Clerk/Town Manager Amy Moore reported the town did not meet the eligibility requirement of 12 consecutive months of ENR standards at the wastewater treatment plant and therefore did not qualify for a $30,000 Bay Restoration Fund operations grant for FY2020. Moore said MDE offered no grant funds for infiltration and inflow (I&I) repairs and that Queenstown ranked #67 on MDE's loan project list of 100.
Moore said the plant has membrane and flow issues that affected compliance. Commissioners asked Bob Rauch to determine how far down MDE is funding projects on the list and what loan terms might be available. Rauch also raised the status of the town's water tower; commissioners agreed to hold a workshop and asked the clerk to set it up with Rauch and Town Attorney Lyndsey Ryan.
Separately, Commissioner Hardee raised erosion concerns at properties where dredging work is planned and asked whether rock armoring could be placed at two property corners; the town agreed to investigate and to examine ditch maintenance behind residences that has caused localized drainage problems.
Town fund balances reported by the clerk were: General Fund checking $119,238.87; Water/Sewer Fund checking $83,939.21; WWTP Project checking $9,259.86.
