Wymore council approves routine business, grants alcohol permit and green-lights intersection repairs

The Wymore City Council approved a set of routine agenda items and a series of community and public-works actions at its June 17 meeting.
In consent business the council approved the minutes of the previous meeting and the Treasurer’s Report. The body also approved Claims and Payroll; a motion to approve all claims except check number 31320 passed 4-0. A separate motion to approve check number 31320 passed with a 3-0 tally and Council Person Curt Oblinger recorded as abstaining.
Resident Katie Reinke requested permission to serve alcohol at a private, invitation-only vow-renewal/wedding reception at the Community Center on Sept. 12, from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m., using the beer garden. The council granted the permit in a 4-0 vote on a motion by Council Person Max Allen, seconded by Council Person Sue Sapp; the event will use age checks (stamps) and a monitor to oversee alcohol service.
Utility Superintendent Tim Sedlacek told the council an intersection repair project at 8th and F carried an estimated cost between $16,000 and $20,000; the council voted 4-0 to proceed with the project as described. Separately, City Attorney Andy Carothers said he has not yet received a demolition estimate from Tim Lottman for two downtown dilapidated buildings.
During public comment resident Max Monilov inquired about the status of a lot split involving Tony Shepardson; Carothers said he is still waiting on the plot plan and legal description from the surveyor. Council Person Neil Van Boening raised a safety concern about an inoperable vehicle partially parked in an alley on Marlene Nickels’s property and noted the transcript reports Nickels has slept in a car some nights; Carothers said the new police chief may need to address that issue.
Mayor Collin Meints reported the police department bathroom is nearly finished and should require another day or two to complete. The Police Department Advisory Committee had no additional items beyond those already discussed. The council adjourned at 8:07 p.m.
