Keansburg School District Board of Education members approved a broad consent agenda at their meeting, taking action on personnel appointments, contract renewals and facility planning items while opening the floor to public comment.
The board approved personnel recommendations presented by the superintendent (S1), covering items 1–14. The list included professional employment and new employment contracts, medical accommodations, designation of an affirmative action officer, additions to the substitute pool (including restorative-practice substitutes and substitute computer technicians), student-teaching placements, Title I Titan Family Academy conductors, coach and adviser appointments, trip nurses, paraprofessional activities and summer child-study team work. A trustee (S4) moved the personnel slate; the motion was seconded and the roll call returned affirmative responses from trustees called on the record.
The superintendent (S1) also presented policy and regulation items 15 and 16 for first reading; a trustee (S2) moved to advance those items on first reading and the motion was seconded, with no substantive questions recorded. The board listed general agenda items 17–21, including a school-security drill statement of assurance, disposal of unusable or outdated furniture and equipment, acceptance of donations to the Kimsavage Learning Center, and the principal and teacher evaluation instrument.
During discussion trustees sought clarification on staffing for coaching positions. One trustee (S2) asked whether teams ‘‘have two heads’’ as sections were being split; the superintendent (S1) confirmed that sections are being split and that capacity exists for the assignments. A separate question about whether a special-education item met required budgetary thresholds prompted the superintendent to reference the district’s 90% budgetary reimbursement standard.
The board accepted several contract- and grant-related items listed by the superintendent, including approval of the Naviance contract renewal, renewal of transportation contracts and notifications of ESEA and secondary consolidation grants as presented. The superintendent thanked Qport Auto for renewing a district vehicle contract at a lower rate, which the superintendent said reduced costs for the district.
An addendum included resignations, professional employment actions, assignment of an athletic trainer, staffing for transition planning nursing support, and a resolution authorizing professional architectural services for work at Kingsbury High School and the Montgomery Place project; the motion to approve the addendum was presented and seconded.
Board members also noted operational items: the superintendent confirmed required drills had been completed for the year and thanked staff; a trustee praised the maintenance team for summer preparations of fields and buildings. The board opened a public comment period during which trustees and staff thanked donors and volunteers. The superintendent (S1) highlighted renewal of the community eligibility provision for free breakfast and lunch, saying the program helps ensure "our kids have full bellies" before learning. The board recorded gratitude for a Costco donation of backpacks and gift cards intended to reach students across grade levels, and staff said distribution dates would be posted.
A trustee recorded a recusal on the bill list (page 7) for the minutes. With business concluded, trustees exchanged closing remarks and moved to adjourn.
What happens next: items advanced on first reading will return for later action as required by district policy; the architectural-services resolution will enable staff to solicit or retain design services for Kingsbury High School and the Montgomery Place project as described in the resolution presented to the board.
Attributions: direct quotes and attributions are to speakers identified in the meeting record (S1–S6); roll-call affirmations were recorded by name in the transcript when trustees were polled.
