During the general-comments portion of the meeting a council speaker urged the body to stop watering the historic cemetery, arguing hard water is causing damage to sandstone monuments and that preserving the site supports local tourism.
The speaker said, “Please don't water that dang cemetery,” and argued that monuments of historic and artistic value would be harmed by regular watering. The speaker noted that memorial-day rains typically keep the site green and that watering later in the season can put a residue on stones.
Separately, the council directed Rick and Dennis to research ‘green burial’ options and return with a recommendation. The Chair noted the cemetery item and assigned the research task to council members so the body can consider policy or operational changes once it receives cost and procedural information.
No formal ordinance, restriction or funding decision was adopted at the meeting; the council requested a research report to inform any future action.
