Newport council fills two commission seats, including airport vacancy

The Newport City Council at its June 1 meeting approved two appointments to local commissions.
Andy May moved and Allen Edwards seconded the appointment of Wendell Green to the Newport Advertising and Promotion Commission to replace Carol Falwell. The motion carried on a recorded vote with Falwell, Julie Moss, Michael Allen, Allen Edwards and Andy May voting yes and Wendell Green recorded as abstaining (5-0-1 abstention).
Mayor Ratliffe presented a letter from Newport Airport Commission Chairman Billy Keedy requesting that Justin Best be appointed to fill the unexpired term of Jim McLarty. Michael Allen moved and Allen Edwards seconded the motion to appoint Justin Best; the council approved the appointment unanimously (6-0). The appointment carries a term expiring Sept. 30, 2028, as announced at the meeting.
Both appointments were recorded in the minutes without amendment.
