The Harpersville Planning & Zoning Board unanimously approved a motion to rezone two Farmingdale Road parcels from RG to A1 and forwarded the measure to the Town Council agenda for its May 4 meeting.
Daniel Harris, the applicant for parcels 07 8 33 2 001 004.006 and 07 8 33 2 001 004.005, told the board during the public hearing that he plans to "create a community area with the vegetation he would like to plant," would not construct additional buildings on the property and expects "the property taxes would change to his advantage." Board member Martin Dates asked why Harris sought A1 zoning if the same agricultural uses could be allowed under the current RG designation; Harris responded that the A1 classification better matched his intended use.
The board opened the item in a public hearing at 6:23 p.m.; no members of the neighboring community spoke. After discussion, Board member Dale Glasscock moved to rezone the parcels from RG to A1 and Board member Della Pender seconded. Chairman David Sanders conducted a roll-call vote that resulted in unanimous approval.
The board recorded that the rezoning will appear on the Town Council agenda on May 4. The meeting minutes state that the applicant does not plan to erect structures and that the rezoning is intended to reflect the propertys agricultural use and anticipated tax classification.
Chairman Sanders closed the boards action by noting the unanimous vote and that the measure would be considered by the Council. The Planning & Zoning meeting adjourned at 6:50 p.m.
