The Village of Rothschild board on June 8 approved a social media policy that outlines how village staff will manage and monitor social accounts and gives staff authority to remove negative comments on posts created by the village.
Administrator Ryan VanDeWalle and Tourism & Marketing Director Dave Brula, joined by Trustee Deb Ehster in discussion, described the policy as a tool to provide fair, equitable guidelines for village communications. Trustees asked how businesses could use village pages; VanDeWalle said the village would create a separate business page for local businesses to use and the village’s main page could share relevant posts from that business page.
Trustee Sam Stroik moved to approve the social media policy, and Trustee Deb Ehster seconded. The board approved the policy 7-0 and directed VanDeWalle and Brula to develop a timeframe for implementation and return to the board with details.
