Athens lists summer events, student move-in traffic and council return date

City officials used the weekly update to highlight several upcoming community events and to remind residents about student move-in traffic and municipal scheduling.
The summer concert series will feature Brad McNelly and Jones and the Hissyfits on Friday, July 24 from 6–8 p.m. behind the community center, the mayor said, and attendees were encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs. Officials also promoted the Copperheads' last home game and fireworks night, noting community and employee-appreciation activities beginning at 7:05 p.m.
The Athens Police Department and other local law enforcement agencies will host National Night Out on Aug. 4 from 4–7 p.m. at the city swimming pool, the mayor said, with free activities including snacks and games.
Officials warned that off-campus student move-in had already started and on-campus move-in begins July 20; heavy traffic is expected July 20–23 in campus-adjacent greens. The mayor reminded listeners that the council is on recess and the next regular meeting is scheduled for Aug. 3 at 7 p.m., with committee meetings or a special session possible that evening.
No ticketing, permit fees or enforcement details were provided in the update; organizers encouraged residents to attend community events and to plan travel during move-in days.
