Commission approves manual removal of water chestnuts in Beaverbrook with special conditions

The Littleton Conservation Commission voted to issue an order of conditions authorizing manual removal of invasive water chestnuts from Beaverbrook (DEP file 204-1039), adopting DEP-recommended special conditions and a waiver where necessary.
Applicant Dave Barcey told the commission he had provided a revised notice of intent that adds the conservation department as a co-applicant and lists 15 private parcels that have given permission for the work; those parcels cover nearly the entire length of Beaverbrook to be treated. Tim read the DEP-recommended special conditions, which require inspection and cleaning of equipment before entering other water bodies, shaking plant material while still in the water to allow small wildlife (turtles, fish) to escape, hand-inspection of material once on land and the return of wildlife to the water, and a prohibition on work between Aug. 15 and Sept. 30 to minimize disruption to hatchling dispersal.
A motion was made and seconded to close the public hearing and issue the order with the waiver and special conditions; the roll-call vote was unanimous. Staff asked the applicant to keep the commission updated on timing and progress.
