Aldermen order drainage timeline, monthly public updates and engineering proposals for Ward 6

On June 16 the Board of Aldermen took several actions aimed at accelerating drainage improvements and public transparency.
Alderman Bessner moved—and the board approved—a requirement that Public Works provide a written timeline for planned drainage and infrastructure improvements for Ward 6 and for the city within 30 days, prioritizing the most urgent areas. Staff acknowledged weather may affect exact completion dates but agreed to provide a prioritized to‑do list and schedule.
The board also approved a companion motion requiring Public Works to provide a monthly public update about progress on drainage and infrastructure projects, to be posted on the city's website and Facebook page on the last business day of each month.
Separately, the board authorized a July work session to review progress on the city’s comprehensive plan and directed staff to use the city’s existing pool of engineering firms—or solicit targeted proposals—to produce project recommendations and cost estimates for priority drainage areas, particularly Ward 6 and newly annexed neighborhoods.
Staff agreed to coordinate with aldermen to define geographic scope and bring back proposals and cost estimates at a future meeting.
