Southampton landmarks board raises no objections to several local projects, approves signage for Tutto Cafe

At its July 21 meeting the Town of Southampton Landmarks and Historic Districts Board issued findings of no objection for several renovation and demolition applications including 33 Ragnar Lane, 49 Station Road and 9 Veil Avenue, and approved signage and lighting for a Tutto Cafe COA; staff will circulate resolutions and COAs as appropriate.
Stephanie Davis, chair of the Town of Southampton Landmarks and Historic Districts Board, moved that the board "issue a finding of no objection to the proposed work" for a modest rear addition at 33 Ragnar Lane; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.
Architect Sean Leonard told the board the project is "a small addition" to a pre-1941 dwelling consisting of a bathroom, a rebuilt deck and a portion screened in "more or less in kind," using the same wood materials as the existing house. Board members asked about lot size; staff confirmed the parcel is approximately 4,800 square feet (0.11 acres) and that the change would not alter the house's front appearance.
The board also voted to issue a finding of no objection to the demolition of the residence at 49 Station Road after staff reported limited historic significance and extensive vinyl cladding. Stephanie Davis summarized the research and said the property "does not appear to meet any criteria as a historic landmark." Vicki moved the demolition finding and Samantha seconded; the board approved by voice vote.
A renovation at 9 Veil Avenue in East Quogue — a proposed single-story addition wrapping three sides of a 1926 AYB house and a garage addition — drew similar review. Staff noted many non-original elements and replacement windows; the board found no basis to object and approved the application.
On commercial signage, the board reviewed a COA submission for Tutto Cafe at 2426 Montauk Highway showing laser-cut aluminum lettering, a small 12-inch blade sign mounted about 8 feet above the ground and warm LED garden lighting. The chair said the lights are ‘‘warm’’ and compliant with dark-sky guidance (2,700K). Vicki moved and Samantha seconded a resolution approving the signage as submitted; the board approved and staff will circulate the resolution for signatures before issuing the COA.
The board approved the meeting minutes with a requested edit to repeat a line in the 67 Baycrest Avenue entry. The chair said she will revise the minutes and circulate them for finalization.
The board's actions were procedural approvals and no individual vote tallies were recorded in the minutes beyond voice approval. The board adjourned at 7:52 p.m.
