The Waukesha Common Council on Oct. 15 appointed Doreen Wiggersen to fill the District 3 aldermanic vacancy, voting 10–3 by paper ballot and administering the oath of office immediately afterward.
Wiggersen, who told the council she has lived in District 3 for 25 years and cited leadership experience at We Energies and recent small-business work, said her top priority would be improving communication between the city and residents. Diane McGeen, the other applicant, described long experience in housing and nonprofit work and said she would pursue homeownership opportunities and neighborhood improvements if selected.
Council members each had the opportunity to ask both applicants questions before voting. Wiggersen told the council she had already spoken with experienced aldermen and would focus on constituent outreach and clearer project communication, citing recent water-main work and road closures as examples of where residents felt underinformed.
After ballots were collected, the clerk read the tally: 10 votes for Doreen Wiggersen and 3 for Diane McGeen. The mayor administered the oath of office; the clerk recorded the term to expire April 21, 2026. The council retained the paper ballots with the clerk for the official record.
The appointment filled the vacant District 3 seat; the council did not take further related action at the meeting.
