Oxford City on May 19 approved a resolution to accept a $35,000 grant from the National Fitness Campaign (NFC) and to proceed with local funding and fundraising to install a free outdoor fitness court.
Seth, who told the board the Oxford Park Commission submitted the application, said the NFC award is among the largest the organization has distributed and that the city will provide additional local funding estimated in staff materials at $283,000 to meet program requirements. Seth said staff has 120 days to identify and secure the remaining funding sources and that Bailey Branch Park is the proposed location.
Board members moved and approved the resolution; Seth said he has leads on additional grant programs and will work on funding. The resolution adopted at the meeting commits the city to implement the outdoor fitness court program and to collaborate with NFC on activation and programming.
Why this matters: The project would add a publicly accessible outdoor fitness court and associated installation work (concrete pad and equipment assembly). The city signaled an intent to fund and operationalize the court but must identify roughly $283,000 in local or matching funds within the 120-day period Seth specified.
