The Oxford Historic Preservation Commission appointed Jimmy Bogridge as its new vice chair after Commissioner Diane Scruggs’ retirement, the commission announced during its May 1 meeting.
Chair opened the floor for nominations after noting Scruggs’ departure. "Jimmy Bogridge and I have had a good conversation since then, and he has expressed interest in being considered," the Chair said, moved to nominate him and the commission seconded and approved the nomination by voice vote.
Earlier in the meeting, staff member Kate provided the staff report and highlighted resources for volunteers and a training "boot camp" intended to help volunteers understand common preservation situations. Kate also summarized administrative approvals handled by staff and asked if any commissioner had questions; none were raised and the commission proceeded to public hearings.
The new vice chair will serve with the existing commissioners and take on the duties associated with the vice-chair role under the commission's rules and by tradition; commissioners offered congratulations during the meeting. The commission then proceeded to consider three public-hearing COA items on its agenda.
Next steps: Jimmy Bogridge will assume vice-chair duties immediately; staff will continue to process administrative approvals and work with applicants whose COAs were denied to revise plans as needed.
