Oxford aldermen approve multiple routine items; SBA outlines disaster-loan help for residents

Among the approvals, the board adopted a resolution to declare the house and immediate surrounding property at Cedar Oaks surplus and authorized conveyance back to the guild contingent on nonprofit tax-exempt status and a two-year reverter clause. The board also authorized a contract for GIS services to support city mapping projects, accepted a proposal process recommendation for multi-space parking meters, authorized advertising for roof renovations at the Oxford Activity Center, and approved change orders and contract awards for several public-works projects.
The board authorized the mayor to sign a memorandum of understanding with the North Mississippi Regional Center to continue a long-standing partnership placing clients in a few hours per week of work, and approved a demo agreement with New Way to test a new garbage-truck body with city drivers.
Chief (police) described the school resource officer (SRO) agreement with the Oxford School District for the 2026–27 school year; staff said the agreement is the same as last year with a deletion requested by the school, and the board authorized the mayor to sign the SRO agreement.
Julie Garrett of the U.S. Small Business Administration told the board the SBA disaster loan program covers homeowners, renters, nonprofits and businesses with uncompensated losses from the storm. She outlined loan rates (homeowner disaster loans as low as 2.85%; business loans as low as 4%; nonprofit rates at 3.625%), said payments and interest are deferred for the first year, and noted two local SBA assistance centers in Lafayette County where residents can get in-person help.
