Frontenac USD 249 board hires two teachers after brief executive session

The Frontenac Unified School District 249 Board of Education voted 5-0 on Monday to hire Jennifer Hansen as a junior high English language arts teacher and Ariana Faucett as an elementary teacher for the 2026-27 school year.
President Matt Frankenbery called the special meeting to order at 7:30 a.m. Board members Stacy Ferraro, Scott Kunshek (on speaker phone), Seth Nutt and Jenna Stout were recorded present; Sean Anderson and Lindsay Smith were absent. Superintendent Howard Smith and district staff including District Coordinator Brandy Stanley and Business Manager/Clerk Julie Underwood were also present.
The board approved the meeting agenda on a motion by Stacy Ferraro, seconded by Jenna Stout. At 7:34 a.m., the board voted to enter a five-minute executive session to discuss nominations and separations of non-elected personnel pursuant to the non-elected personnel exception under KOMA; the motion was made by Seth Nutt and seconded by Stacy Ferraro. Superintendent Howard Smith and District Coordinator Brandy Stanley joined the board in the executive session.
The board returned to open session at 7:39 a.m., and on a motion by Jenna Stout seconded by Stacy Ferraro approved the two hires by a 5-0 vote. The minutes record the hires as Jennifer Hansen, junior high ELA teacher, and Ariana Faucett, elementary teacher, for the 2026-27 school year.
At 7:42 a.m., the board moved to adjourn the special meeting; the motion by Seth Nutt, seconded by Stacy Ferraro, passed 5-0.
The minutes list High School Principal Bill Sullivan and Junior High Principal Mike Martin as present but do not record additional discussion, public comment, or further action on staffing, budgets or contracts during the meeting.
