Fowler board adopts KASB policy updates, approves consent agenda and accepts storm-damage repair bids

The Fowler Public Schools Board of Education on Oct. 14, 2024, at Fowler Elementary School adopted KASB’s August board policy updates, approved a consent agenda of routine items and accepted several bids to repair storm damage. The meeting opened at 7:00 p.m. and adjourned at 8:18 p.m.
The board unanimously adopted the KASB August Board Policy Updates as presented. TJ Milford moved the policy-adoption motion and Cathy Heinz seconded; the vote was 7-0. The consent agenda, moved by Jeff Zortman and seconded by Travis Sutterfield, carried 7-0 and included: approval of minutes from Sept. 9, 2024; financial reports and payments; gifts and grants; resignations, new hires and appointments; dual-credit scholarship applications; and renewal of the district’s SAM.gov registration.
On storm-damage repairs the board accepted three bids, each passed 7-0: the HVAC bid from Foster Frigeration (moved by Travis Sutterfield, seconded by Jeff Zortman), a painting bid from Deb Foster (moved by TJ Milford, seconded by Omar Mijares), and a high-school gym-floor bid for second-grade maple from Phil’s Floor Care Specialist (moved by Jeff Zortman, seconded by Travis Sutterfield). The meeting record does not specify contract amounts.
Board members received reports during the meeting from the Fowler Action Committee and the Special Education Cooperative, and staff presented updates on school security measures and results from a family survey; no formal action was recorded on those reports. The board recorded no executive session.
The board adjourned at 8:18 p.m. after a motion by Jeff Zortman, seconded by Travis Sutterfield, which carried 7-0.
