Eudora staff report water study findings, authorize emergency wastewater repair under purchasing policy

Director of Public Works Branden Boyd told the City Commission on Feb. 9 that a city-wide water study performed in summer 2025 evaluated hydrant flows to identify low-pressure areas and aging water lines, and that the department will use the findings to develop a long-range capital improvement plan for pipe replacements.
Boyd also reported discovery of a leak in the return line at the wastewater treatment plant that requires an emergency repair estimated at just under $20,000. He said the repair work will take about two weeks to complete and will require roughly two weeks of lead time for materials and scheduling; Boyd and City Manager Zack Daniel said the purchase is covered under the city’s purchasing policy and they wanted the commission informed of the expense and schedule.
Boyd invited commissioners to tour the Bonner Springs Water Treatment Plant to view a facility comparable to Eudora's planned infrastructure.
No vote was taken on the repair; Boyd described it as an emergency purchase allowed by policy and said staff will proceed to arrange the repair.
