USD 327 board approves technology purchases, door replacement and accepts multiple grants

At its Dec. 9 regular meeting, the Ellsworth-Kanopolis-Geneseo USD #327 Board of Education approved several capital and technology expenditures and accepted multiple gifts and grants. The board voted unanimously on each item, with motions passing 6-0.
The board approved a request from Curriculum and Instruction Director Dr. Dan Magie to buy classroom technology using PILOT funds. The purchase includes six SMART panels, two carts, 14 monitors, seven laptops, three desktop computers and one additional laptop at a total cost of $40,587. The motion to approve was made by Cynthia Edgerle and seconded by Steve Shepherd.
Trustees also accepted a package of donations and grants. Notable items the board recorded were Cat’s Pride contributions for baseball and softball equipment and an iPad; a BCBSKS Healthy Habits for Life grant providing two Element Neon Jr. bikes; and a donation through the Kansas Rural Education Center and the Advancing Digital Opportunities to Promote Technology (ADOPT) Program consisting of 50 Chrome OS tablets for kindergarten, 60 HP 11G9 4G Chromebooks for grades 7–8 and 30 HP 11G9 8G Chromebooks for grades 9–12 (reported value approximately $42,000). The Smoky Hills Charitable Foundation provided $1,537.20 for percussion carriers, $660 toward an electric range and $519.16 for a Reader’s Theater Literacy Camp. Jake Svaty moved to accept the gifts; Brian Rush seconded.
On capital work, the board accepted the low bid from Glass Services of Salina to replace three exterior doors at Kanopolis Middle School for $22,839. Mr. Svaty moved to accept the bid and Mr. Rush seconded; the motion passed 6-0.
The board also approved renewing Grow Ellsworth membership at the nonprofit rate of $150 to retain access to grant-research resources and support. All votes on these business items were unanimous.
