Edgerton council finds owner has addressed major deficiencies at 301 E. 5th Street; resolution satisfied

After staff reported structural repairs, the City Council moved to satisfy the previously filed unsafe-structure resolution for 301 E. 5th Street and will continue periodic inspections; the motion passed 3-0.
The City Council held the required public hearing on Sept. 12 concerning whether the property at 301 E. 5th Street should be declared a dangerous or unsafe building under Resolution No. 07-11-24A. Development Services Director Zach Moore told council staff had met with the property owner multiple times and that the owner’s written statement and recent work addressed the structural concerns: the roof was repaired, the electrical meter was serviced and power restored, and tree debris on site was removed.
Moore said staff is not recommending further action to deem the building unsafe at this time. "Staff has met with the property owner on multiple occasions, they have addressed the structural concerns, repaired the roof, worked on the electrical meter and have power to building as well as addressed concerns with tree debris on site," Moore said. Mayor Roberts opened and closed the public hearing with no public comment. City Attorney Todd Luckman explained that if the property later falls into hazardous condition, the city can refile action under the code.
Council moved to satisfy Resolution No. 07-11-24A, effectively concluding the current unsafe-structure hearing, and approved the motion 3-0. Staff will conduct periodic follow-up inspections and may refile if conditions deteriorate.
