Edgerton council gives property owner more time on plan for 312 E 5th St.

Development Services Director Zach Moore updated the council Aug. 22 on 312 E 5th St., a property previously declared dangerous or unsafe and ordered by prior resolution to be demolished or repaired.
Moore said the property owner had previously received extensions and that the city has received notice a structural engineer's written report will not be complete until mid-September. An owner representative, Ashlee Yager, told the council the owner intends to complete an equity analysis to determine whether repair and resale or demolition is the better economic option. Yager said the structural engineer's written report is due Sept. 3 and requested additional time to gather contractor bids and financial analyses, asking for an extension through the end of September and a full project plan by Oct. 10 if more time is required.
Councilmembers expressed concern about repeated delays. Councilmember Ron Conus said he did not see why the process should be prolonged after Sept. 3. Mayor Roberts pressed the owner's representative to provide a clear direction rather than continuing to wait for contractor placements. The council settled on an update deadline of Sept. 26 and approved a motion to extend timelines to allow that update; the motion passed unanimously.
Moore said staff will continue to solicit bids and provide interim updates as information becomes available.
