Edgerton council approves permits, street closures and insurance agreement for Meat Inferno event

The Edgerton City Council voted unanimously Aug. 22 to approve a series of resolutions enabling the Meat Inferno barbecue event planned for Oct. 4'5, 2024.
Brittany Paddock, recreation superintendent, told the council the event organizer requested a temporary waiver of the city's prohibition on the sale and consumption of alcoholic liquor on certain public property for Friday night. After a brief public hearing with no comments, the council approved Resolution No. 08-22-24B to allow alcohol sales and consumption on the specified public property for Oct. 4.
The council also approved Resolution No. 08-22-24C, authorizing a special event permit for alcohol sales and consumption on Oct. 4, and Resolution No. 08-22-24D to close certain public streets during the event. Staff said street closures are similar to prior years but adjusted to accommodate ongoing Nelson Street construction; a truck-route detour and signage will be posted.
Resolution No. 08-22-24E establishes temporary no-parking on listed streets from Oct. 3 at 12:00 p.m. through Oct. 7 at 12:00 p.m. to assist traffic flow and pedestrian safety during the event.
The council also approved Resolution No. 08-22-24F, an indemnity agreement with the Edgerton United Methodist Church to allow use of the church's parking lots for the event. The agreement restricts large trailers from parking on the church's paved lot, allows the church the option to operate a booth, and confirms the church is covered by the city's insurance for the duration of the event. Each of these resolutions passed 4-0.
The approvals allow event organizers to proceed with planning subject to the terms and dates in the resolutions.
