Board accepts gifts, approves FCCLA trip to nationals and honors student achievements

At its May 12 meeting the Ellsworth USD 327 Board of Education accepted several gifts and grants and recognized a string of student achievements across academics, arts and career-technical programs.
Gifts and grants accepted included $1,000 from Southern Star Pipelines for a Physical Science classroom, $1,500 from Sunflower Civic Club allocated at $250 per student to support FCCLA members attending Nationals, and $3,000 from Cashco to supplement FCCLA national travel. The board accepted these gifts by motion and approved out-of-state travel for Mrs. Burger and FCCLA students to the national competition in Florida; both actions passed 7-0.
The board also congratulated numerous students and sponsors for achievements: Maggie Bohl (CTE scholar, Comprehensive Agriculture Science); multiple FCCLA state placings with seven students qualifying for nationals; art show awards at Ft. Hays and the NCAA league art show (several medals and merit awards); forensics qualifiers (sponsor Kendra Ploutz noting limitations on entries but that 13 entries will go to State Champs); Bearcat eSports top finishes in a MarioKart tournament; FFA Career Development Event results and band/choir ratings. The minutes list dozens of student names and event results.
These recognitions and the gift acceptance were recorded in the minutes to acknowledge student accomplishment and to authorize the use of donated funds to support travel and classroom resources.
