Ellsworth board approves greenhouse funding, paving and purchase of $159,650 activity bus

Board President Gina McGowan presided as the Ellsworth USD 327 Board of Education on March 10 approved a package of capital projects and equipment purchases tied to facility upkeep and student activities.
The board voted 6-0 to approve using PILOT funds to cover $19,000 in installation costs for greenhouse upgrades after district leaders said materials were funded by Oneok and the Dane Hansen Foundation. Jake Svaty, who moved the motion, said the grant covered materials while the district would use PILOT funds for installation; Brian Rush seconded.
The board also accepted a bid from Holland Paving for $56,605 to resurface the KMS parking lot and play pad. Brian Rush moved the paving motion and Ashley Bohl seconded; the vote was unanimous. The student parking lot at EJSHS was tabled pending further information.
For transportation, the board approved purchase of a 2012 MCI J4500 motor coach from CoachMasters for $159,650 to use as an activity bus. David Hand moved the purchase; Jake Svaty seconded and the motion passed 6-0.
On facilities coordination, Cynthia Edgerle moved to approve a new Football Field Maintenance Interlocal Agreement with the city, including an option to renew for an additional year; Ashley Bohl seconded and the motion passed 6-0.
What the board approved will affect scheduling and maintenance for athletics and extracurricular travel; the EJSHS parking-lot decision was deferred pending additional information. The board gave staff direction to work with contractors and city officials to schedule work and next steps.
