Eudora Commission appoints leadership, approves library board appointments and routine business

The Eudora City Commission opened its Jan. 12 meeting by appointing Commissioner Tim Bruce as Mayor and Commissioner Alex Curnes as Vice Mayor for 2026 and approving the meeting agenda and consent items.
The Commission appointed Eric Magette and Kenny Massey to the Eudora Community Library District Board with terms through December 2028; the Commission said it continues to pursue making the library board an elected entity in the future. During public comment, a resident asked the Commission to install a sound system in the commission room and urged the city to ensure street maintenance keeps pace with development.
The Commission approved a digital monument sign application for Eudora Elementary School; Commissioner Grant High recused due to his employer having made a donation related to the sign. The Commission also approved the proposed 2026 meeting schedule with the May 25 meeting moved to May 28 and the Oct. 10 meeting removed. The Commission approved the purchase of a new police vehicle.
In staff updates, City Manager Zack Daniel announced an orientation and work session for the new commission, Planner Kyle Kobe’s return to full‑time service, and the promotion of Michael Gentry to Assistant to the City Manager. Police Chief Wes Lovett announced a new hire, Nate Criqui, who is in academy training; Fire Chief Justin Lee reported the department handled 855 calls in 2025 and is preparing a recruitment academy in March.
