Edgerton approves $70,927 change order for dumpster enclosure at The Greenspace; digital sign item tabled

The Edgerton City Council on Oct. 10 approved Change Order #18 adding $70,927 to the Combes Construction contract to build a required dumpster enclosure for The Greenspace. The enclosure was not included in the original construction contract; staff and the project architect evaluated multiple placements and finishes before finalizing a design in September 2024. The council approved the change order 5-0 (moved by Councilmember Clay Longanecker; seconded by Councilmember Bill Malloy).

CIP Project Manager Holly Robertson said the enclosure is required by the Edgerton Development Code but was mistakenly omitted from the bid documents. Councilmember Josh Lewis asked why it was not included in the initial contract; City Administrator Beth Linn said it was an error in the design documents. Mayor Roberts noted the project architect had not billed the city for the enclosure design, which he said made him more comfortable approving the change order.

Separately, the council tabled consideration of a $20,220.79 proposal from Signs Etc. for a digital sign at The Greenspace; Mayor Roberts requested tabling and Councilmember Clay Longanecker moved to table, seconded by Councilmember Josh Lewis. That tabling motion passed 5-0 and the digital-sign item will return to a future council meeting.

In a walk-on update, Public Works Director Dan Merkh reported an asphalt change order for The Greenspace that had a not-to-exceed amount of $28,000 actually came in at $18,000. Merkh also said a vehicle trade-in value of about $15,000–$16,000 will be applied toward purchase of a new truck.
