Lumberport officials review Tier 2 water-quality notice after leaks and paperwork delays

At the Lumberport Town Council’s Dec. 2 meeting, town staff told council members they are monitoring a Tier 2 water-quality notification that health officials require to be available to the public, but paperwork issues have delayed formal public notification.
Allen Westfall, speaking during the water and sewer report, said he reached out to the health department about the Tier 2 letter and that the town is working to ensure the notice is posted. He also relayed a report from resident Bill Keener about a suspected leak; staff said the flow appears to be runoff and that crews will continue to watch the area.
Public works supervisor Bill Davisson reported that crews found and repaired several leaks. Davisson said water running down Jones Run stems from a repair completed several years ago that he described as not properly finished; he said the Department of Highways is responsible for performing the new repair needed to stop that flow.
Council members moved to accept the water report by voice vote. The council asked staff to continue monitoring the reported leak and to coordinate with the health department and DOH on the outstanding repair and public-notification steps.
The council accepted the report and moved on to other business.
