Cass County awards Buck Creek bridge contract, approves rural transit JPA

County Engineer Trent Wolken reviewed current road and equipment projects before the board voted to award contract L-94- -73-15 (bridge replacement 443 on Buck Creek Road) to Gus Construction in the amount of $298,494.12. Supervisor Denise O’Brien moved the award; Supervisor Pettinger seconded. The board recorded all ayes and the motion carried.
Earlier in the meeting the board also approved a Rural Transit System Joint Participation Agreement with the Southwestern Iowa Planning Council (SWIPCO), also referred to as SWITA, for fiscal year 2026–2027. Supervisor Green moved to approve the agreement; Supervisor Richter seconded. The board voted all ayes and the motion carried.
The actions signal the county’s near-term investments in transportation infrastructure and continued participation in a multijurisdictional rural transit partnership. The bridge contract award will proceed through the county procurement process and to contractor mobilization, and the transit agreement covers Cass County’s participation for the coming fiscal year.
