Council appoints Chief Joshua Abercrombie as Picayune's flood mitigation representative

The Picayune City Council on July 7 appointed Chief Joshua Abercrombie to serve as the city’s representative on the local mitigation planning board, a position the city manager said is required for participation in the National Flood Insurance Program.
City Manager told the council that in order for citizens to participate in the national flood insurance program, FEMA requires the jurisdiction to have a representative on the mitigation plan board and asked that Chief Joshua Abercrombie be designated to represent the city in development and implementation matters.
A motion to appoint Abercrombie was made, seconded and approved by voice vote. The council did not attach additional directives or reporting deadlines to the appointment during the meeting.
