Board approves use of Cook County Community Center by national incident team for two weeks at $1,000 per day

The Board unanimously approved an Emergency Facilities and Land Use Agreement to allow a national incident management team to use most of the Cook County Community Center as an emergency operations center for roughly two weeks at $1,000 per day; the contract arrived shortly before the meeting and was reviewed by county legal counsel.
County Administrator Bridal told commissioners that the National Incident Management Organization arrived in Cook County and had requested use of the Cook County Community Center as an emergency operations center beginning the afternoon of the special meeting.
Bridal said the team requested the majority of the community center (including the log cabin, kitchen, conference rooms and arena) and offered the county $1,000 per day for use of the facility for the next two weeks, with day-by-day arrangement possible afterward. "They are offering us 1000 dollars a day, to use that facility," Bridal said. She added that the contract was received roughly 20 minutes before the meeting and that county legal counsel had reviewed it; because of the timing, the contract could not be attached to the public agenda packet.
Commissioners asked how scheduled activities would be affected. Bridal said staff have been contacting users to cancel events for the next two weeks, that community center director Sarah Waddell will still be able to work from the facility, and that the county is seeking a different location for the Thursday market. Commissioners also discussed planning for an emergency polling place for Aug. 11.
Commissioner Sullivan moved to approve the Emergency Facilities and Land Use Agreement as presented; the motion was seconded and passed unanimously.
