Cook County approves Paramount EOC support contract, readies appointment as longtime emergency staff retires

County Administrator Bridal told the board the county seeks a contract with Paramount to provide qualified staff and incident management support for an Emergency Operations Center activation tied to the July 6 wildfire incident.
Bridal said the request is prompted in part by the upcoming retirement and resignation of long-serving emergency staff member Mike Keyport, effective Sept. 1, and by the statutory requirement for a deputy emergency management director. "So Mike Keyport, who's also in the room, has submitted his retirement and resignation effective September 1," Bridal said. She said the contract and appointment would help ensure continuity of incident management while current staff transition.
Commissioners asked whether the county would be out of compliance without a deputy; Bridal deferred to Keyport for background on past deputy arrangements. Commissioner Mills moved to approve the Paramount EOC activation support contract and the resolution to appoint Steve Van Ketrick; the motion was seconded and passed unanimously.
Bridal said staff will work with Steve on required appointment paperwork and the oath of office, typically with state assistance.
