Madison aldermen grant 22‑foot variance, approve site and architectural plans and schedule two zoning appeals

The Mayor and Board of Aldermen on Oct. 21 unanimously approved a set of planning and development measures that included a 22‑foot height variance at 116 Weathersfield Drive and several site and architectural approvals.
Community Development Director Kianca Guyton recommended approval of the variance for a pool house at 116 Weathersfield Drive; Alderman Sandra Strain moved to grant the 22‑foot variance and Alderman Tawanna Tatum seconded. The board voted unanimously to approve the request. Guyton also presented a site plan for The Gallery (Phase I) and recommended approval contingent on additional work on parking; Alderman Tatum moved for approval, Alderman Janie Jarvis seconded, and the motion carried unanimously.
The board granted architectural approvals for Spinners, the Royal Street Buildings and Pig & Pint, all contingent on completion of final design details. Each motion passed unanimously following recommendations from Guyton and motions by individual aldermen.
Ms. Guyton told the board that two Planning & Zoning applicants who had been denied by the commission had requested appeals. The Ranch was scheduled for an appeal hearing on Nov. 18, 2025 after a motion by Alderman Guy Bowering and a second by Alderman Sandra Strain. The appeal for 128 Spotted Acres was scheduled for Jan. 6, 2026 following a motion by Alderman Janie Jarvis and a second by Alderman Tawanna Tatum. Both scheduling votes were unanimous.
The approvals and scheduling decisions were recorded as part of the meeting’s community development agenda; staff will follow up on the contingencies for parking and final architectural details as part of permit processing.
