Metcalfe County Board recognizes students and staff; principals and directors report school activities

The Metcalfe County Board of Education opened its Nov. 12 meeting with recognitions for students and staff and received updates from district leaders and school principals.
Chairman John Caffee recognized student-of-the-month honorees and staff employees across elementary, middle and high schools. Superintendent Josh Hurt highlighted recent Veteran's Day programs, the Studer Education survey work across student, parent, staff and community groups, and a KASA Principal for a Day visit by State Senator Max Wise (which the superintendent said KASA leadership praised in an email).
Brandon Brockman reported on MCES and MCMS activities including MCES Beta Showcase winners advancing to State Beta and a highly successful MCES Fall Festival that raised about $30,000 for the PTO (with the prince/princess/king/queen portion raising more than $26,000). Joseph Eaton told the board MCHS is hosting an 'Alive at 25' driver-education course for surrounding counties on Dec. 12, held a HOSA blood drive that met its goal, and is using Practice ACT data to guide instruction.
The board heard additional reports from MCMS staff about Red Ribbon Week activities, student ambassador selections and community field trip experiences. No formal board action was required for recognitions and routine school reports.
