Metcalfe County Board approves FY25 budget, accepts member resignation and signs mental-health MOA

The Metcalfe County Board of Education on Sept. 17 approved the FY25 working budget, a salary-schedule update, a hearing-impaired services contract with Barren County, and a MOA with GRREC to add a Project ACCESS mental-health counselor; it also accepted board member Donnie Perry’s resignation and approved several construction pay applications and invoices.
The Metcalfe County Board of Education on Sept. 17 approved its FY25 working budget and a slate of contracts and personnel actions while beginning the replacement process for board member Donnie Perry, who submitted his resignation on Sept. 10.
Chairman John Caffee opened the meeting at 6 p.m. at 709 West Stockton Street. Superintendent Josh Hurt told the board he was “very pleased with the start of the new school year,” and reported attendance near the mid-90s (94.3% earlier in the week, 93% that day). Hurt thanked IT staff, safety personnel and recent retirees and gave construction updates: the new art room at the high school is functional pending a kiln, and the multipurpose building work is expected to be completed in October.
On action items, the board unanimously approved the FY25 working budget, citing routine revenues and reimbursements reported in the financial packet. The board also approved a 2024–25 salary schedule update that includes pay increases tied to years of experience in IT and maintenance positions and a position for an assistant tennis coach.
The board approved a contract with Barren County Schools to provide hearing-impaired services from Mrs. Charlotte Roach; the superintendent noted the district already has a similar contract with Monroe County. The minutes record that if future KETS offers of assistance materialize and the board approves them, the district would be required to provide matching funds.
The board also voted to approve a memorandum of agreement with the Green River Regional Educational Cooperative (GRREC) to bring an additional mental-health counselor to the district through Project ACCESS. The motion was moved by Daniel Glass and seconded by Tim Brown and recorded as approved.
Financial reports presented in the meeting packet documented multiple warrants and vendor payments across food service, maintenance, software and construction accounts. The packet included substantial construction-related payments, among them an $258,926.11 entry noted to ARP ESSER and construction line items. The board voted to accept the monthly financial report as presented.
Consent business approved earlier in the meeting included minutes from Aug. 13, approved field trips and a large personnel slate of teachers, after-school staff and substitutes whose effective dates ranged across August and September.
The minutes record that, after accepting Donnie Perry’s resignation, the board will begin the process to fill the vacant seat. No timetable or replacement candidate was recorded.
