Metcalfe County Schools report near-full staffing, test-score posting and upcoming ribbon-cutting

District officials told the board the schools are largely staffed and ready for the new year, that test scores required by new Kentucky law are posted, and that the newly formed Metcalfe County Educational Foundation will hold a ribbon-cutting Aug. 19.
District administrators used the Aug. 13 board meeting to report readiness for the new school year: staff opening day is Thursday, Aug. 22, and administrators said nearly all positions are filled with one paraeducator vacancy expected to be filled before classes begin.
Superintendent Josh Hurt summarized summer events and staffing: the district held back-to-school bashes at the middle and high schools, served more than 50,000 meals over the summer, and coordinated clothing and supply drives with community partners. "We are getting ready for the first day of school and looking forward to opening day for staff," Hurt said during his report.
The district plans a ribbon-cutting on Monday, Aug. 19, for the Metcalfe County Educational Foundation, a nonprofit separate from the school system that will partner on funding and educational opportunities. Schools are rolling out a new Deeper Learning initiative called "Portrait of a Hornet," with posters in each building and a Google Site documenting student learning journeys, the instruction director said.
Torrie Osbon, the district's public-relations lead, noted district compliance with a new Kentucky law requiring districts to post their most recent Kentucky Summative Assessment results online: "Our scores are posted, and we are in compliance." Bus routes and other back-to-school information have been posted on the district website.
Elementary-level readiness was reported as well: MCES hosted Kindergarten Readiness Day and will administer Brigance kindergarten screenings the following day. Facilities staff reported the art room flooring is being installed and painters are assigning parking-space numbers.
The meeting closed with routine consent and action items; no public comment was recorded. The next regular board meeting is scheduled for Sept. 17, 2024.
